The Minox BL followed the Minox B and introduced a number of innovations that would continue through later subminiature Minox models. The three most significant changes were the Minox B selenium cell light meter was replaced by a CdS meter that required a battery, the shutter release had to be pressed before the push/pull action would advance the film, and the DIN/ASA setting dial was moved to the camera back. Most of the Minox BL models were made between 1972 and 1973, but some sources say that some examples were made as late as 1977. The total manufacturing run was the smallest of any of the aluminum body Minox cameras, thus making them more difficult to find.
