GOERZ Minicord 16mm subminiature camera, Austria c1951, serial number 16706, with f2/2.5cm Helgor lens, in gold plated finish, green leather, and case. The Minicord is a 16 mm twin-lens reflex 16 mm subminiature camera introduced by C. Goerz of Austria in 1951. It’s one of the highest quality subminiatures ever built. Slightly larger than a pack of cigarettes (114mm L, 71mm D, 71mm W), it sports one of the sharpest lenses ever made for subminiature cameras, a six-element coated Helgor 25mm F2 lens, focusing from 12 inches to infinity. A depth of field table is built into the camera panel. Aperture 2, 2.8, 4, 5.6, 8, 11. The viewing lens is in sync with the taking lens. Light rays entering the viewing lens are refracted by a prism and form a bright, life-size image on a piece of ground glass; the eyepiece is diopter adjustable for sharp image. Unlike an ordinary twin lens reflex camera, the Goerz Minicord image is not only right side up, but also unreversed, due to the use of a prism instead of mirror. The Minicord is the only twin lens reflex camera in 16 mm subminiature history. All-metal focal plane shutter, speeds B, 1/10, 1/25, 1/50/, 1/100, 1/200 and 1/400. The proprietary Minicord cassettes take a double-perforated 16mm film, producing around 40 frames of a 10mm x 10mm image size. This allows the photographer to use the camera either in horizontal or vertical position. A swinging arm on base plate was also provided for better grip. The Minicord finish was basically silver metal with black leatherette but many variants were made in small batches, including this SUPER RARE gold plated version and green leather, the rarest of all. Camera is astonishingly beautiful. The exterior is very clean with very little wear and with no bad issues nicks, dents etc. The camera has just been serviced (Sept 2020) for good working order. Focus is precisely achievable. Speeds are spot on. Glass is crystal clear. Vintage 1960’s Stuzzi Memocord Spy recorder with Sennheiser MM-61 fountain pen microphone, Sennheiser MM-26 clip microphone, remote on/off switch, telephone recording tap, earphone, Minox Spy camera, Minox flash, Minox 2 pack film, map measuring tool, Memocord cassette tape, body harness to carry and conceal recorder and waterproof hard case. This is a complete kit with recorder and all accessories housed in a foam lined hard case. This is a original 1960’s complete kit with all original accessories just the way I received it. The only item that has been upgraded is the case this kit came in. The original case was long ago damaged, broken hinges, broken larch, disintegrated foam and was no longer usable so It was upgraded to a newer hard case. All other items are original to this kit as I received it. The Memocord tape recorder has been serviced and cleaned and works very well. The kit came with four different microphones. A microphone built in to the recorder, a Sennheiser MM-26 clip on microphone, a Sennheiser MM-61 fountain pen microphone and a telephone recording microphone. All microphones have been cleaned and checked and all are in very good working order. The recorder comes with a cloth body harness to carry the recorder concealed under clothing to use for covert recordings. The kit includes a remote on/off switch that can be hidden in a pocket to control the recorder when it is used covertly. Kit includes one original cassette tape in good condition. These recorders used their own proprietary cassette tape with a built in tape counter. Memocord recorders were used by many intelligence agencies around the world and was a favorite of the German Stasi. The Memocord used with the Sennheiser fountain pen microphone and carried in the body harness hidden under clothing was the Stasi preferred method of using this recorder. The Minox camera and flash are in good working order and are in excellent cosmetic condition. These cameras were used by all intelligence agencies around the world from the 1940’s through the 1980’s. They were mainly used for copying documents and set up to take close up photos. They came with a measuring chain attached that had marked increments for measuring the distance from documents to be able to quickly take photos. The kit also includes a map measuring device to accurately measure distance between two points on a map. All items are in very good working condition. It is rare to find recorders and accessories from this time period that are in working condition. Nice piece of cold war history.
