Rare subminiature camera Beauty 16. One of the rarest subminiature japanese cameras made by Taiyodo in the late 40s and early 50s. Made for export only in very limited quantities. On the rear, it is missing a screw similar to the fornt screws. So what you see is what you get. Kodak MATCHBOX compact spy camera. Very rare spy camera for the OSS made during WWII. Camera was requested to by made for the Office of Strategic Services department. Metal and plastic camera shaped like a matchbox. Outer matchbox covering says “Diamond Domino Matches”. Original cardboard covering in two pieces. This super scarce collectible Kodak Matchbox camera is in Ex or 8 out of 10 vintage condition. No dings or dents. Does show some signs of wear around on the camera and matchbox. Included original pouch case. Produces 1/2 x 1/2 exposures on 16mm film. Don’t miss this chance to own a rare collectible Kodak Matchbox camera. A true museum piece. The Eastman Kodak Company was approached in late 1943 or early 1944 by the United States Office of Strategic Services (forerunner to the CIA) to develop a matchbox sized camera that could be used by agents without detection. Officially called the Eastman M. For match box it has a Bakelite inner body containing the camera’s working parts, the film and the lens assembly. This plastic body slid into an outer metal sleeve. The whole camera (7/8×1 1/2 x 2 3/8 inches 22x38x60mm) was then to fit into a wooden matchbox which are typically smaller 15x40x55mm. The shutter is set to 1/60th second or B for timed exposures. The 25mm f/5 Tessar type lens could be set to f8 (f16 ref William White), adjusted by a small pin. The fixed lens had a focal range of 4.5 feet to infinity. The two foot length of film took 34 exposures. Negative size is 14x14mm. It was originally supplied with several rolls of film, tablets of chemicals, spoon, agitating stick, chamois, and film clips. It could also be used with a special stand and close up lens to copy documents. It was requisitioned with labels like a Swedish or Japanese matchbox or plain for camouflage by the operator. The first model simply loaded roll film, but had jamming problems. The second model uses film spools. Model 1 has three markings 120 degrees apart on the winding knob. Model 2 has only two markings exactly 180 degrees apart. The initial order for 500 cameras was delivered in early 1944. The project remained secret until 1947. Rare 1940’s Era Whittaker Micro 16 Subminiature 16mm Film Spy Camera With Case

RARE 1940’S ERA WHITTAKER MICRO 16 SUBMINIATURE 16MM FILM SPY CAMERA WITH CASE. On offer Is a rare 1940’s Era Whittaker Micro 16 Subminiature 16mm Film Spy Camera with Case. Some very minor cosmetic wear but overall, in excellent condition. The Whittaker Micro 16 was a subminiature camera for 16mm film cartridges. It was made by Wm. In Hollywood, Los Angeles, California starting in 1946. It had a built-in reflecting type viewfinder and an optional sports finder was available. It has a 90° view finder, a single shutter speed (1/50sec) and three choices of aperture openings of f/8 (marked Colour), f/11 (Dull) and f/16 (Bright) controlled by a lever next to the lens. It measures just 71 x 51 x 23.5 mm (2¾” x 1″ x 2) yet this all metal subminiature is heavy at 238g (8 oz). The film advance plunger pops out from the side of the camera and is locked in place by a gravity pin. Turn the camera with the words Micro 16 up to disengage the pin and you can pop the plunger out by pushing it in gently – turning the words down and pushing the plunger in will allow the pin to re-engage and lock the plunger closed. The plunger both advances the film and increments the frame count wheel, which you must manually reset (the start mark is frame 22, by the way, marked with an arrow) when you load the camera. The frame counter counts up to 24. An optional eye-level finder frame clips onto the Micro 16 for those not satisfied with the nanoscale waist-level finder built into the body. A standard tripod mount is the last of its limited features. Mostly these cameras went to police departments and detective bureaus. The bodywork is in excellent condition with only minor marks, the shutter plunger still works many are stuck in. As this was a common problem, the apertures move freely and all internal workings appear to be operating correctly. A single take up canister is included as is a carry case. I have no way of saying that it would still function (although there is no reason to doubt that it could) but it would make a great piece to add to your collection. The last picture is of a magazine advertisement for the camera in the late 1940’s. This is not included in the sale. Please view photos carefully and consider them part of the description.
