KGB SUBMINIATURE SPY CAMERA / KMZ F-21 / F21 AJAX. 2 FILM CASSETTES & BOX. I FOUND THIS ONLINE. This is a KMZ Ajax-12, a subminiature camera that shoots images 18mm tall by 24mm wide on bulk loaded unperforated 21mm film. The Ajax-12 was built specifically for the Soviet Union’s intelligence agencies and is commonly referred to by it’s KGB name, which is F-21. It uses a spring wound clockwork mechanism to tension the shutter and advance the film after each exposure. Although the camera can be used “naked” as seen in the image below, it was commonly used for covert photography concealed behind or inside of something else. The Ajax-12 has the distinction of being one of the longest produced single model cameras in the world, with a production run from 1952 to about 1995. NICE & WORKS FINE. Kiev-30 is a Soviet miniature (microformat) scale camera, produced at the Kiev plant “Arsenal” from 1975 to 1987. The camera uses 16-mm non-perforated or perforated photographic or cinematographic film in a plastic cassette from the Vega-2 camera, which looks like a 110-type cassette. The cassette is designed for 25 frames with a size of 13 × 17 mm. It is not possible to rewind the tape. It is possible to change the cassette at any time, while only a small part of the film (about 20 mm) was exposed. The body – metal, consists of an outer removable casing and an inner opaque body, which contains the lens, shutter, film rewind mechanism. The external removable aluminum casing houses the viewfinder; in the transport position, the casing covers the shutter release button, shutter, lens and focusing ring. The shutter is cocked and the film is rewound by pushing-out the inner camera body into the casing. Curtain shutter with horizontal movement of metal shutters. Located in front of the lens. The shutter has a constant slit, the shutter speed is regulated by changing the shutter speed. Only three shutter speeds are possible – 1/30, 1/60 and 1/200 seconds. When cocked, a red mark is visible on the shutter. Setting of shutter speeds – by a ring brought out on the side wall of the chamber. Automatic self-resetting frame counter. The sync contact “X” is installed on the inner case, the sync delay can be any. There is no clip for a flash. The viewfinder is frame, sighting is possible only with the cover extended. Lens “Industar-M”, coated, relative aperture 1: 3.5, focal length 23 mm. The diaphragm is two-blade, with a square aperture. Control – a ring brought out to the side wall of the chamber. On the outer casing there is a calculator – a tabular exposure meter for approximate determination of shutter speed and aperture based on weather conditions.
